A few suggestions:
For web or computer applications that are not printed (PowerPoint, Front Page, etc.), use rgb .jpg files that are 72ppi (pixels per inch).

For printed applications (newsletters, Word docs, PageMaker, etc.) use 300ppi, cmyk .tif files or .eps files. Quality of results will depend on several factors, including program used, type of printer (color or grayscale, laser or inkjet, postscript, etc.) or other. It may be necessary to experiment to get the best result.
