Integrated Contextual Workplace Learning and Skill Development

Come learn how the Bakersfield College Workplace Learning Resource Center and Bakersfield College faculty partnered with the New Life Training Center to provide at-risk youth preparation in basic literacy, job readiness and construction trades skills. A local construction company provided work experience opportunities to the students building a residential home that will be sold as affordable housing. This is truly an integrated program for the Next Generation!

Training Programs Address Technician Gap in Optics and Photonics Industry

NSF recently reported an industry shortage of 1,800 technicians in the Optics and Photonics industry. This session will describe the delivery of three training pathways (basic optics, instrument design, optics fabrication and testing) to increase the number of technicians trained in the basic skills needed for a qualified optics and photonics workforce. Supply of opticians to fabricate high precision optical components is a critical national security issue. A new NSF initiative for Optics Fabrication Training is being formed with member colleges being invited. Learn how to develop partnerships with the optics community and how your college can participate!

Documenting Your Successes in the EWD Data Collection System!

Data collected for the EWD Program is essential to the continued success of EWD. This presentation will cover using the EWD Data Collection System as well as the importance of collecting accurate data and how it is used for continued funding and continuous improvement. The session will begin with a brief overview of the changes from previous versions and include a walk through of the new forms and reports. Definitions of the data to be collected will be covered. There will also be a discussion of the gathering, organizing and entering of data as well as resources for help with using the system. A must for all grant recipients!
